To answer the main research question “Do the social/interpersonal questionnaires completed at the start of treatment predict treatment outcomes at the end of treatment and is this relationship the same for those young people who also have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder?” a secondary analysis of deidentified NHS patient data will be conducted. The secondary research aims are to look at any patterns in social difficulties according to age or sex and to assess how reliably community eating disorder services record social and interpersonal difficulties using the Strengths and Difficulties and Revised Children's Anxiety Scale.
Using linear multiple regression analysis, we will investigate whether eating disorder treatment outcomes (duration of treatment, remission status at discharge, change data on Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire & BMI) can be predicted by the social/interpersonal factors recorded in routine eating disorder clinical care (peer relationship problems, prosocial behaviour, social anxiety, social phobia, secondary diagnoses including diagnosed or suspected ASD). We will first adjust for demographic factors then examine how age and sex moderate any such associations
